Can Gastric Bypass Cure Diabetes?

1.jpgThere are some exciting things going on in the study of Type 2 Diabetes and gastric bypass. It seems that people are being cured of their diabetes after the surgery. Now for any naysayers who will say that it is only because they have lost weight, it seems that patients are able to dump their diabetes medication anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. While it is true that weight loss will help people with diabetes control the disease, it seems that this approach is a much quicker option.

Now before you run out and sign up for this surgery, it has not been approved for the treatment of diabetes. However, if you have diabetes and fit the requirements for the weight loss surgery, then this may indeed be something you may want to look into. You can read more about these results here. It is also interesting to note that the popular lap band surgery does not provide the same results. It definitely needs to be gastric bypass.

I find these results intriguing and a beacon of hope to those who are suffering from diabetes. What do you think about these possibilities for treating not only weight loss, but diabetes?
